Eastern Kentucky University recognizes the important role of diversity in fulfilling its mission. Diversity is fundamental to critical thinking and thus enhances what we learn, how we interact with others, and how we participate as citizens in a global community. We are committed to recruiting and retaining students from all segments of society, including African-American, American Indian, Alaskan Native, Asian, Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander, Hispanic, or Latino. The Dr. Rodney Gross Diversity Scholarship program provides scholarships to applicants based on a holistic evaluation of academic achievement, listing of school activities and a personal essay. The program is intended for students pursuing their first undergraduate or graduate degree.
Awards range from $1,000 to $3,000 per year, and are applied to student's tuition and fees. In order to retain the scholarship, the student must maintain a 2.5 cumulative grade point average, be enrolled full-time, reapply annually, and participate in the Rodney Gross Scholars Program in the Student Outreach and Transition Office (SOTO) if the student is an incoming freshman. Applicants who apply for our EKU Diversity Scholarship will also be considered for the New Horizons Scholarship.
Deadline: March 1st, 2021
Eastern Kentucky University announces the establishment of the Trailblazer Scholarship Award to assist students seeking to become the first in their family to earn a bachelor's degree. Serving this population of students has been at the heart of Eastern’s mission for over a century and this scholarship will help fill unmet needs many first generation families experience when attempting to find affordable quality college options for their children.
First generation, first-time freshmen students can apply until March 1, 2021 to be considered. The award amount may vary depending upon the individual student’s need and academic record. Priority will be given to students who are not receiving other institution merit aid.
Students will be required to upload a typed essay. Students must also have completed the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to be considered for the award.
Students transferring from other accredited programs who reside in certain markets may qualify for additional assistance through the SMART program. If an International student transfers to EKU from another college/university in the United States, they would be eligible for the SMART program. Visit SMART for additional information.
