      Loose Canon Project

The Appalachian Shakespeare Center’s Loose Canon Project (LCP) is an arts education initiative that celebrates learners in the Appalachian region and engages them with the works of William Shakespeare. We bring them the unique opportunity to work with Professional Teaching Artists who will help the students explore Shakespeare’s texts and to work collectively to create a project-based presentation.  LCP culminates in the Loose Canon Festival held on the campus of Eastern Kentucky University every April. The Festival is a day where the students gather on campus, attend workshops, have lunch, and share what they’ve created with each other, their schools, family and friends, and the community.

Everyone has to read Romeo and Juliet in school; however, one of the greatest goals of LCP is to expose students to the great stuff in ALL of Shakespeare's plays, even if the state of Kentucky doesn't require them to be read. PLEASE CHOOSE AS MANY PLAYS from each category that interest you. Please select AT LEAST ONE PLAY FROM EACH CATEGORY and don't worry, we'll give you the opportunity to tell us why any of these plays is perfect for you and your school.
